Pubs and Restauants
New 2012 The Gunton Arms is my idea of a perfect pub, historical, great interior and great food (it's pricey, but not ridiculous and worth it) and in a stunning parkland setting (Bookings 01263 832010).
We love the Veron Arms in Southrepps , good food and traditional old Norfolk pub atmosphere and a pool table for a pre supper competition. A real collection of locals and visitors. You can cycle it or walk if keen - about 4 miles. (Bookings 01263 833355)
The Ship in Mundesley (T: 722671) is good, full of locals, new land lord is doing well, it’s a walk along the beach (there’s a slip way after the Beach Café) or take the beach road after the coast guard lookout. Good for large rowdy parties. Round the corner is The Mundesley Royal, which I like, but gets mixed reviews - lots of nice Nelson items.
Fish and Fry - (T: 720486) Local fish and chip shop is excellent and there’s a good fish monger veg shop and butcher in Village.
The Red Lion in Cromer is nice, small restaurant next door Williams is good and there’s a good café on the esplanade above the Henry Blogg lifeboat museum (worth a visit).
For a lovely country walk do Blickling Hall and lake and have a pint in The Buckinghamshire Arms outside the main entrance to Blickling or The Black Boys (Aylsham). If you want a foodie Pub the Walpole Arms or Saracens Head both hilarious to find - have fun getting lost!
Did you know - There’s a small indoor pool at Trimingham for kids – my kids like it and we have a small golf course and driving range.
Things to do!
A whole day - Cromer to Holkham Day Trip - A must see coast road, drive Cromer to Wells, stop at Stiffkey, Cley (Bird watching) & Blakeney (White Horse Pub) and travel onto Holkham Beach amazing (The Victoria for food) ! Or take a seal boat trip from Morston (tickets from Blakeney Quay (check tide times), stop for grabbing on the quay.
Head through Holkham Park on the way home. If you have time visit Lord Nelson's birth place at Burnham Thorpe. Bit further on is Burnham Market (Chelsea-on-Sea), good food, lots of twee shops and some antiques.
Coming back cut inland to Holt (Antique shops & galleries), stop for afternoon tea at Byfords and take the faster top road (A148) home!
Mundesley & Cromer Day
Build sand castles! Take a beach walk (from house) in either direction, if you head east come up by the lifeboat shed (1/2 mile), if west about 2.5 miles come up the Trimingham Slip way or 7 Miles to Cromer. See the smallest Museum at the coast guard lookout. Play a round of mini or proper golf. Go see a lighthouse in Happisburgh. Go to Cromer, see the RNLI museum, go crabbing on the pier, paint a pot, have fish and chips, watch the movies, go for a dip in the sea!
